In 2019 I underwent open heart surgery which is a result of a congenital heart condition which launched me on an exploration of identity from a new perspective.

This inspired me to produce my first films Waterways and Breathless.

Waterways (2022) is a visual representation of one person’s continuous, fleeting, dreamlike, interlinked reality imagined as journey through waterways, narrated from within.

Breathless (2023) is an autobiographical account of my 2019 trauma and resolution depicting declining health, the lead up to open heart surgery and going through to theatre, followed by an account of recovery in intensive care and then making it out of hospital.

With two new breast cancer diagnoses in 2023 my autobiographical work has further deepened. It has become about endurance of receiving long term treatment. The feminist stance of the ‘personal is political’ is still at the centre of my investigations with the intent of making my personal experiences more widely-relatable through identification, in the hope it will help other people facing similar challenges.

My next film A Meditation on Trauma (2024), sits independently to Breathless but is also a reflection on recent bodily trauma after receiving my first breast cancer diagnosis (duct cancer). It is about how you emotionally absorb information such as this, the feeling of prolonged stages of uncertainty and the fragility of life. This film has been submitted to film festivals and is currently being reviewed.

From January 2024 and onwards I have been documenting my journey after my second breast cancer diagnosis (triple negative). While receiving treatment at Barts hospital, London, I am gathering autobiographic footage as well as recoding interviews of other breast cancer patients. I am planning to edit this material into an autobiographical account speaking alongside others as part of a documentary.
